Perspective

When we left on our Van Trek, many of our friends expressed surprise that we planned to live for a year with such a small amount of “stuff.” Some said, “I could never do that.”
Last night we slept at a small church in Florida. We were fortunate enough to meet the pastor, and enjoyed hearing how a small congregation has reached out to the homeless in their area. Twenty to thirty people sleep in the church each night, on air mattresses, and these people themselves care for the church, which is open 24 hours a day.
This morning, as I was trying to rearrange all the “stuff” in the van (we brought too much), I realized that to these homeless people, we probably looked rich. We have a roomy van with a comfortable bed, that holds everything we need to live, provides shelter from the elements, contains more clothes than we’ll ever wear, and we can take all of this with us on the road.
It’s all a matter of perspective.
