Today is a defining moment for you; or at least an opportunity for one. God may be calling you into a personal relationship with Him. Will you respond? He may be calling you into a deeper level of commitment and service to Him. Will you submit? He is calling His children to come together and praise Him through music and [prayer]. Will you sing from your heart to God and follow the call from His Word?

This may sound like heresy in some quarters, but I have come to this conclusion: there are far too many among us who have thought that they accepted Christ, but nothing has come of it within their own lives and desires and habits!

There are some things for which we have perfect liberty. They aren't spoken against in the scriptures and the Holy Spirit has not brought conviction against us for them. But, if those areas are obstacles to another person in following God, then can we not put those things aside so that we help our brother or sister live a life more in tune with Jesus?

Scientists have wondered why Canadian geese always fly in a "V" formation, so the engineers did a study on the subject. They discovered that the flapping of each goose wing provides an upward lift for the goose that follows. When all the geese were flying in perfect formation, the whole flock had a 71% greater flying range than if each bird flew alone. Each was dependent on the other to reach its destination. Likewise, the church needs to learn that it's at least 71% easier to live the Christian life by "flying with the flock" than it is to fly alone.

'Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts …' (Psalm 95:7b-8a). God speaks to us in this Psalm to tell us what it is that He essentially wants in worship, what makes worship true worship. It is that today we would listen to His voice! That is what He wants. He wants us to heed his voice—not just come together.

God smiles when we praise and thank Him continually. Few things feel better than receiving heartfelt praise and appreciation from someone else. God loves it, too. An amazing thing happens when we offer praise and thanksgiving to God. When we give God enjoyment, our own hearts are filled with joy.

The teachings of Jesus belong to the Church, not to society, for in society is sin, and sin is hostility to God! Christ did not teach that He would impose His teachings upon the fallen world. He called His disciples to Him and taught them, and everywhere throughout His teachings there is the overt or implied idea that His followers will constitute an unpopular minority group in an actively hostile world.

Satan is always ready and willing to make a fool out of one of God's people. Don't allow yourself to fall into the hands of the Devil and believe his lies.

I noticed the following on a church sign a while ago. It made me think!

"ATM Inside

Acceptance Truth Mercy

No card needed!"

I wondered, ...is that really true of the church I attend or that you attend? Or, is it just words? "God so loved the world…"

To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything, and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart to no one, not even to an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements; lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket- safe, dark, motionless, airless--it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable.

Every person is responsible for the choices they make. We never can say that it's someone else's fault when we make a wrong choice. The consequences of the choices we make, that lead to a path that is contrary to the things of God, cannot be laid at the feet of anyone but our own. May the choices we make today be holy and righteous and honoring to God!

The church doesn't need more songs about hungering for God. The Church needs more examples of those living the crucified life who are seeking after God! (from a sermon preached on 2/21/2021)

It was not the sorrow of the world that broke the heart of Christ, but its wickedness. He was equal to its sorrow ... He began by being the world's healer. But what broke him was its sin.

Sometimes the Lord rides out the storm with us and other times He calms the restless sea around us. Most of all, He calms the storm inside us in our deepest inner soul.
