At the Missouri Crossing

After we left my brother Garry’s house in Boone, Iowa, we decided to spend two days in Omaha, Nebraska and Council Bluffs, Iowa, adjoining cities with the Missouri River running between them.

Iowa Impressions

We didn’t spend long in Iowa, but we still feel like we saw a lot.

Space: the Final Frontier

That’s the opening line of most every Star Trek show. And it sorta fits this posting.

Chicago and Robie House

We spent Friday and Saturday in Chicago, wore out our feet, and in the process saw many amazing buildings and constructions. Millennium Park and the Loop were on Friday’s agenda, with Robie House and the University of Chicago campus on Saturday’s. From “The Bean” to Trump Tower, the Chicago Cultural Center to Robie House, we were impressed with all that is Chicago, and realized that one could spend months there and still not scratch the surface of this amazing city that literally rose from the ashes of the Great Fire.

Indiana Dunes Camping

When we decided to spend a few days visiting the Chicago area, we approached the venture with a little fear and trepidation, wondering just how we were going to be able to visit the city and learn how to get around. Fortunately, we got off the interstate when the sign directed us to Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore and stopped at the visitor center before trying to find a place to spend the night.

Excellence - The Meyer May House

Last week we visited the Meyer May house, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, in Grand Rapids. As we watched the video about the house’s restoration, and then toured the magnificently restored home, the word “excellence” kept coming to my mind.

Rabun Beach, Georgia

Just north of Tallulah Falls, Georgia, on US-441, is a sign pointing to Rabun Beach Recreation Area, which is around 6-8 miles west of the highway on Lake Rabun Road. It’s hard to tell how many miles it is, since the road is very curvy and hilly, following the snake-like lake along its shore.

An Urban Adventure

This article is called “An Urban Adventure” but perhaps “Adventure” is the wrong word to use. It should perhaps be “Nightmare.”

Proverbs 16:18

Hmmmm….I wonder what is meant by that reference? I suppose it has something to do with a lesson learned, or something like that.

Juniper Springs Adventure!

Remember that line from the old TV show, 3-2-1 Contact—“The Tropics are HOT?” Ahhh, not so much.

Thoughts on visiting Koreshan

A few days ago we visited the Koreshan Settlement State Historic Site in Ostero, near Fort Myers, Florida. The Koreshan Unity was one of several communal utopian communities that were founded during the late 1800s in America.

Taking Time to Reflect

Sometimes we can get so caught up in the everyday aspects of simply living out our day, that we lose sight of the amazing glories of our Creator God.

On the way to Homestead

After ten days of travel, we have finally made it to “sunny” Miami, and Art’s brother’s home in Homestead. We saw some interesting things along the way. Click on the link to Smugmug (under Links, above) to see more pictures.
