Chicago and Robie House

We spent Friday and Saturday in Chicago, wore out our feet, and in the process saw many amazing buildings and constructions. Millennium Park and the Loop were on Friday’s agenda, with Robie House and the University of Chicago campus on Saturday’s. From “The Bean” to Trump Tower, the Chicago Cultural Center to Robie House, we were impressed with all that is Chicago, and realized that one could spend months there and still not scratch the surface of this amazing city that literally rose from the ashes of the Great Fire.

My Father’s Desk

For a few hours today, we’re in Clawson, working in the house where I grew up. And perhaps for the last time, I’m sitting at my father’s desk.

Changes…for the Better

Not all change is bad. Some changes actually are good for us or help to bring light into darkness.

Excellence - The Meyer May House

Last week we visited the Meyer May house, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, in Grand Rapids. As we watched the video about the house’s restoration, and then toured the magnificently restored home, the word “excellence” kept coming to my mind.

A Change of Perspective

All of my life I have seen myself as healthy, and even though I have always struggled with lack of energy and have had what I thought were minor health issues, I had always hoped that I would be like my mom, who is 92. She takes only one medication (for blood pressure) and sees the doctor twice a year just to see if there are any changes.

A Fresh Coat of Paint…

...hides a multitude of sins, or so the saying goes something similar.

Design Star

Have you watched any of those design shows on TV? What does the designer always say to the skeptical homeowner? “Trust me, you’re going to love it. You have to wait until it’s finished to see the whole picture.”

One small step for a man . . .

While Bonnie and I have been working for the past several weeks on Madalynne’s new living quarters, we’ve been a little negligent with our blog posts. So, I’d like to let you know of our progress.

This week is spring break for the grandkids. Because a family trip isn’t possible right now, Brenda has planned a “stay-cation.” Each evening, one of the children is scheduled to choose 1) a favorite snack to be served, 2) the flavor of the evening’s popcorn, 3) a favorite game for everyone to play, and 4) the movie to be shown. Last night Jenny picked 1) moon pies, 2) butter and salt, 3) UNO, and 4) The Empire Strikes Back (“Luke, I’m your FAH-ther.”)

Solitude. We all crave it at one time or another. For about thirty seconds this morning I experienced it.

Brrrrrr. . .

Who said this is the “Sunny South?” Well, it might be sunny, but we need to go further South for the warmth!

Time for Work

It is now time to come in from the warmth of cool Florida to the semi-warmth of Georgia

Proverbs 16:18

Hmmmm….I wonder what is meant by that reference? I suppose it has something to do with a lesson learned, or something like that.
